Automation that
survives exceptions

The exception path deserves the same design effort as the happy path, because that is where the work is.

Exceptions are the process

In most operational environments, the exception path consumes the majority of skilled time while receiving a minority of the design attention.

Automating only the predictable path produces a system that looks efficient in a diagram and changes very little in practice.

Route with context

When work escalates, it should arrive with the evidence, the attempted reasoning, and the specific reason for escalation.

A queue of unexplained cases transfers effort rather than reducing it.

Measure per step

Cycle time measured only end to end hides where the constraint actually sits.

Per-step measurement usually reveals that waiting, not working, dominates elapsed time.

Considering a system like this?
