The data foundation
question

How much foundation is enough before starting on intelligence, and how to avoid a two-year detour.

Neither extreme works

Waiting for a complete data platform before attempting any intelligence delays value indefinitely. Ignoring data quality entirely produces systems that cannot be trusted.

The practical answer is scoped: build the foundation required by the first use case, properly, and no further.

Definitions before pipelines

Most data disagreements are definitional. Agreeing what a term means, with an owner, resolves more than additional tooling.

Encode those definitions as tested transformations so they cannot drift silently.

Lineage as a requirement

Any figure presented to a decision-maker should be traceable to its origin without an investigation.

Lineage is cheap to build in and expensive to retrofit.

Considering a system like this?
